In this comprehensive six week course you will work with experienced textile artist Marianne Kennerley to learn some of the tricks of the trade.
Week 1: Art of Repair (23rd April)
Learn how to love your clothes as you visit some traditional repair techniques, giving them a contemporary twist. Participants will learn hand sewing and machine sewing techniques.
Week 2: Love your Machine (30th April)
Participants will learn some of the sewing machine basics including: threads, needles, fabrics, threading, tension, feet and common problems. Although nothing specific will be made this week, there will be a variety of materials to experiment on.

What you will need: Your own sewing machine will be needed for some weeks. See description.

Week 3: Making Simple Things (7th May)
An introduction to pattern-making through the construction of a simple item, such as an apron or cushion.
Week 4: Decorative Sewing (14th May)
Through a mixture of hand sewing and machine sewing, participants will be given experience in more decorative
sewing techniques, including the use of facings, interlinings and fabric backings.
Week 5: Understanding Patterns (21st May)
An introduction to commercial patterns and how to begin creating your own. For this class participants will need to bring a pattern of choice and some fabrics to work with.
Week 6: Technical Details (28th May)
This week learn some of the more technical skills that are required, such as buttons and buttonholes, basic and invisible zip insertion, invisible hems and different seams.
